Mercy Madame Monsieur Translation Meaning and Lyrics

Review

Lovely heartwarming song from France in the Eurovision from 2018 which was held in Lisbon, Portgual.

They finished 13th overall, but notably came 2nd in the OGAE vote, which is a public vote of typically a younger cross-section.

Simple yet effictive beat, has some nice simple lyrics for language learners.

Madame Monsieur are a husband/wife duo, band chose the topic of the refugee crisis to make an evocative song, and the YouTube video features people fleeing war now safe in France.

Émilie the female vocalist, of course, gives it to the max with flemy noises that French people make.

I was born this morning,

my name is Mercy,

In the middle of the sea

between two countries, Mercy.

It was a long way and Mom took it.

She had me in my skin, eight and a half months.

Oh yes, eight and a half months.

We left the house, it was war.

Sure she was right, there was nothing to lose.

Oh no, except life.

I was born this morning,

my name is Mercy.

I've been reached out

and I'm alive.

I'm all these kids

that the sea took.

I will live a hundred thousand years.

my name is Mercy.

And there before our eyes was the enemy,

a blue immensity perhaps infinite,

but yes, we knew the price.

Rising from a wave, a friendly ship

gave our survival a chance again.

That's when I made my first cry.

I was born this morning.

my name is Mercy.

I've been reached out

and I'm alive.

I'm all these kids

that the sea took.

I will live a hundred thousand years.

my name is Mercy.

I was born this morning.

my name is Mercy.

Thank you, thank you, I'm fine thank you.

Thank you, thank you, I'm fine thank you.

Thank you, thank you, I'm fine thank you.

Thank you, thank you, I'm fine thank you.
