Review
"Guantanamera" is a well-known Cuban folk song. The best-known lyrics, adapted by Julián Orbón, are based on the first stanzas of Versos sencillos, by Cuban poet José Martí. The 'people attributed the musical composition to José Fernández Díaz, better known as Joseíto Fernández. The song has been adapted and recorded in many versions. It is perhaps the best-known Cuban song and the most prominent patriotic. Official writing credits are for Joseíto Fernández, who first popularized the song on the radio as early as 1929. In 1966, a version by the U.S. vocal group The Sandpipers, based on an arrangement by the Weavers from their Carnegie Hall Reunion concert in May 1963, became an international hit.
