Review
Demi has had a breakup. But she's going to get back on her feet, nay, she's going to get so back on her feet that she's a thousand feet high.
Her little gasps as she sings at full volume, and whispering, makes this a memorable ballad for me.
Nice useful expressions like me hace daño
- it hurts me/it pains me.
llevar
- can, of course, mean to take away (not as in a burger, but to remove something), just never thought of it as outside the meal context.
Rendir
- to give up. Hard one to remember but apparently the English very render (most commonly: provide, process, transform etc.) can be used to mean 'surrender' also. Ha! I just typed a cognate; surRender. Demi sings the 'r' exquisite.
Juro
- to swear. I noticed the uncommon Spanish 'J' is often used with legal matters.
Dar + cuenta
is a phase meaning "to notice/to realise". Which will be very useful I'm sure in daily life.
Levantar
is used as a term in construction.
Despedir
- to fire/dismiss or to say goodbye to someone. Another one that seems hard to remember at first; but look it has 'pedir'
in it - pedir
means to 'demand or order' e.g order a dish. The des- prefix makes it negative.
Of course there's the English version, but then it seems Demi has not been using the translator :)
