Review
Song summary:
'Today I'm afraid' is one of the most representative songs of the Mexican band Fobia, which was presented at Vive Latino 2019. This single comes from their album 'Rosa Venus', the studio quit and the first since their separation in 1997. 'Today I'm afraid' is one of the most talked-about songs in their concerts.
When: Fobia is a rock band from Mexico City that has been active since 1987. The band began its career in Mexico City in 1987, a time when there was little publicity for rock groups in Mexico.
How: “Hoy Tengo Miedo”, the promotional single from the album clearly presented a rebirth of the band. Their sound was updated and although it was not far from the style of the groups on the rise at that time, it presented the maturity of a project with a trajectory of more than ten years and whose members were already in their third decade of life.
Song emotion:
The song is a postcard of insecurities and obviously fear, recounting the anxiety of someone who is afraid of trusting people and loving again. A bass drum that firmly marks the 118 beats per minute of the tempo and an unmistakable bass line opens the track, almost as if describing the agitated beating of the heart and the heavy steps of the nervous walk that someone who is afraid to go out again begins.
To these is added a guitar that enters timidly arpeggiated until building a choir in which euphoria is reached after almost two minutes of hesitation. This sound contrast is also evident in the lyrics since the chorus appeals to the release of fear and to learn to be vulnerable, trusting that not everyone is there to hurt us.
About the video:
The video is about a young man with a stage set in a field, willing to challenge all his fears that the song talks about, so he is encouraged to be with the girl he loves and together they enter a world full of fanciful graphics and drawings. embodied in reality, there is also a scene where the band is playing inside a miniature flower along with hummingbirds.
