Review
Real summer-love sounding duet with caribbean overtones. Fred is from Italy so you get the single line 'La città senza di te' in Italian meaning 'The city without you', in this otherwise entirely Spanish song.
"Se Iluminaba"... means "It lit up". But what is it "it"?
There are two candidates... one the "city" that is "without you", but I prefer reading three lyric lines:
Solo sé que yo andaba a oscuras Y vi que el camino hacia a ti Se iluminaba
Only I know that I felt in the dark And could tell the path to you It lit up
So it was the path (to each other) that lit up.
Ana and Fred appear to be a trailer-trash couple with a premium residence on a deserted beach. They not too badly off as he's got a Harley, time to play golf off the roof of the trailer, and can frequent the local beach bar at their leisure.
Few very interesting lines:
"No lo pienses, acompáñame" - "Don't think about it, come with me"
"pienses" appears both as 2nd Person Singular Imperative Negative and 2nd Person Singular Subjunctive Present Tuteo in the Verb lookup. To my mind both apply, maybe this is common in Spanish; Fred is commanding Ana to "not think about it", yet at the same time is expressing his emotions - he wants her to "not think about it".
Researching this it seems that only the negative imperatives are same as the subjunctive forms. I'm going to plump for the imperative here due to the pronoun placement.
"A wish is not a demand, the conjugations just happen to be the same but the nuance between subjunctive and imperative is very different.
When you learn the language as a native you naturally learn all the nuances during childhood, but you don´t notice these similarities of conjugation until later when you study grammar, so it´s best not to think of "imperative uses subjunctive ". - from comment by 005faa61 .
So I can't really see the nuance , except maybe if there was tone of voice change or in text form an exclamation mark.
Imperative use in this instance is also backed up by the use of acompaña (which is in 2nd person positive imperative form) - with no ambiguities.
