Review
"El cantante" is the first single from Puerto Rican singer Héctor Lavoe's studio album Comedy. It was written by Rubén Blades and produced by Willie Colón. It was released in 1978, being very successful, reviving Lavoe's career and earning him his nickname as the Singer of the Singers.
This song would also be one of the reasons for the success of the album Comedia
, which would quickly become a gold record. They repeated this distinction decades later with the gold record awarded by the RIAA to the album El Cantante – The Originals, a compilation of hits by Héctor where the song El Cantante was included again as the main theme.
