Jarabe de Palo La Flaca meaning and English lyrics explained
La Flaca – “The Skinny one” is a song by the Spanish rock band Jarabe de Palo. La Flaca was released in 1996 and it was inspired when the band traveled to Cuba. One night they met a model named Alsoris Guzmán in a bar-disco called “1830”. The members of the band were impressed with the model's performance and dancing that they decided to create a song in her honor.
La Flaca is a song about a skinny girl in Cuba and how they never met in their life someone similar to her. She was a mullato girl with a skinny figure who danced in a certain bar at night. The lyrics say that the girl sleeps during the day because that way she can trick hunger as she tries to preserve her beautiful curves. When she works in the bar, she drinks beer after beer and all the men that watch her dance in the bar wish to at least receive one kiss from her.
It’s important to note that “Flaca” in Argentina can be used informally to refer to a girl, or a young woman. You can check an example of that definition here
La Flaca by Jarabe de Palo is a magnificent song, one of those classical Spanish songs that everyone should know to understand better Hispanic culture. In terms of learning, La Flaca is an easy song, with no difficult words or verbs and the singing is slow-paced which makes it easy to understand the lyrics. La Flaca is one of the greatest songs by Jarabe de Palo and a song I recommend to add to any Spanish rock playlist.
