Review
“¿Y como es él?” is a song by the Spanish singer and composer José Luis Perales in 1982, the song is quite old but is a classic in Hispanic countries, it can be considered a meme in Latin-American thanks to the fame the song has.
The song is not difficult and is because of its simplicity that’s why so good and famous, the song doesn’t have a video clip telling us a story, but just José Luis Perales singing with sad emotions that he appears to be feeling.
The lyrics of the song tell us a sad yet humble story of a man who knows for certain that his girlfriend is in love with another man. The song starts with the man confronting his girl, not aggressively but calmly, asking her just to tell the truth, he knows she wants to tell him but she doesn’t have the courage to do so. We do not listen in the song to what she says, and the man just asks her “where did she meet him”, “How did he fall in love with her” and many other questions that anyone with that feeling in their chest will ask their partner in the same situation .
This song is perfect for Spanish beginners, is not complicated, it has a lot of repeated sentences, and most of them if not all are easy to understand and translate. If you want a song to practice simple sentences while listening to a sad theme this is excellent, to begin with. Just be careful with Spanish question marks, is important to remember when practicing Spanish that they have both sign “¿?” one to open the question and another to close the question, different from English where we only use one at the end of question.
