Review

La Oreja de Van Gogh Un mundo mejor meaning and lyrics explained

Un mundo mejor “A better world” is a song by the Spanish band La Oreja de Van Gogh. The song was released in 2004 and it was written when the band was visiting Cuba in 2002.

Un mundo mejor is a song about freedom and how people define it. the song is dedicated somehow to Cuba or the island worked as an inspiration for the lyrics. Everything starts saying that time has painted the streets the same color, meaning the decay of Cuba's streets and how they all look the same, gray and sad. The lyrics then say you defend yourself from hunger with a smile and love when the sun isn’t watching everyone dance.

The lyrics are made to poetize the situation in Cuba, and how freedom looks so far from them, the song speaks about old cars contaminating the air with their smoke while soulless tourist drink rum surrounded by poverty. The song mentions the desire to see once more the child singing in a better world.

Mysteriously Un mundo mejor was only played by the band once during one of their tours, after that, that song hasn’t been played on stage. Un mundo major is a beautiful song with a great message about who wants a better world for everyone.

In terms of difficulty, as mentioned in other songs, La Oreja de Van Gogh isn’t recognized for making a difficult song with hard lyrics, everything in Un mundo mejor is easy to comprehend and follow, the singing is slow and the lyrics are easy to understand without using difficult verbs or complex words. For learning Spanish, it is an excellent song to increase your knowledge. Un mundo major by La Oreja de Van Gogh is a magnificent song with a deep message for those who sometimes think about the real meaning of freedom.
