Review
“Historia de un taxi ” is one of the best songs from Ricardo Arjona and is one of the Latin music classics of all time. This song is full of emotions and happenings and there is a great twist in the end. The song was released in 1994 and the video on YouTube has more than 787 million views.
The song and the video clip tell us the story of a taxi driver who doesn’t have a good relationship with his wife thanks to his busy job looking for clients all night. The taxi driver who is represented by Ricardo Arjona drives his cab around the city looking for passengers but it wasn’t a good night however when he was passing close to a bar, he sees a blonde beautiful girl that ask him to stop.
She gets into the and then he realizes that she is crying, he asks her who is she crying for, and she responds that for a guy who believes that because he is rich, he can cheat on her. The taxi driver says to her that she can use him to get vengeance on the guy who cheat on her. she smiles at him and comments that she saw the guy hugging and kissing a humble girl, later, after reflexing about it a little she asks the driver to go to her house, they will drink a couple of tequilas and see what happens.
They go to her house and she has sex with the taxi driver on the carpet, later they go again into the taxi as she decides to go back to the bar with the taxi driver just to let the guy know she isn’t alone when they enter the bar, they immediately spot the guy with the girl, at that moment, the taxi driver realizes that the world and fate work in strange ways as the girl that is kissing the guy was his wife.
At the end of the song and the clip, they decide to leave the bar without being discovered. After that night, the guy and the taxi driver’s wife meet in the same bar, while the blonde girl and the taxi driver meet in the place where she picks her up in the same place of the first night.
I can rate this song as one of the most difficult songs in Spanish to translate and understand, not because has difficult words or sentences, not even because the singing is difficult to hear, it is just because Ricardo Arjona is an expert doing rimes and weird combinations, sometimes some expression can result confusing as they made you wonder the meaning of it, really a good challenge to get better at Spanish.
