Shakira and Ozuna Monotonía meaning and lyrics explained
Monotonía – “Monotony” is a song by the famous Colombian singer Shakira alongside the Puerto Rican reggaeton singer Ozuna . The song was released in October 2022 following her last single “Te Felicito”
Monotonía is a song whose lyrics were written to describe the last days of Shakira and Gerard Piqué relationship and why their love ended so abruptly. The video clip for the song shows us Shakira buying groceries in a small market when suddenly she faces in a hall to a man who represents Gerard Piqué. She is surprised and a little nervous. She tries to continue buying her stuff when the man takes out a big rocket launcher and shot her, leaving a big hole in her chest.
Shakira falls to the ground and her heart beats near to her, she picks up her heart and walks outside the store, having to face a new reality.
In Monotonía lyrics Shakira recognizes that it wasn’t Gerard or her fault but monotony’s fault, their relationship was slowly decaying and she knew but remained silent even though it was painful for her. Ozuna is in the clip to make a company for her while she is suffering. Shakira also states in the lyrics that Gerard was only pursuing fame and protagonist, he didn’t care about their relationship or what she wanted, and he was always doing the same things over and over.
Monotonía is one of those songs you need to hear twice because maybe the first time the rhythm cannot be too convincing but after you get used to the bachata rhythm you enjoy it much more the song. Shakira didn’t put too many lyrics in monotonía and they aren’t difficult at all. For a Spanish beginner it won’t take too much time to understand what it says , the singing isn’t fast too, just good enough to test your listening skills.
Overall monotonía is a cool song, extremely recommended for those Spanish beginners and for those who want to know more about what happened between Shakira and Gerard Piqué and why their relationship came to an end.
