Review
Has someone cheated on you with someone else just because it has more money than you? If this has happened to you, surely you felt anger and resentment for a few days, maybe wanting to take revenge on them. “Devuélveme a mi chica ” is a song about that feeling, but is a hilarious representation of that moment. The song was released in 1985 by Hombres G , a famous Spanish rock-pop band, the song is based on real events that happened to the vocalist of the band David Summers. “Devuélveme a mi chica” is one of those must-hear songs in Latin America, it doesn’t matter how old the song is every generation will end up loving it. the song had many covers by other musical groups and even a movie named “Sufre Mamón ” describing the events from the song lyric.
The lyrics tell us the story of a boy who is crying in his room, sad and angry because his girlfriend dump him for a rich boy who owned a white Ford Fiesta and a yellow jersey. What follows next is the articulation of an evil plan for the sad boy to take revenge on the rich guy who stole his girlfriend.
He burned the yellow jersey but the rich boy bought 5 or 6 more, angrier and crazier than before, he plans to go one night and smash the with Ford Fiesta, the sad boy says “Give me back my girl” or he will put itching powders in the rich boy neck to see him twist of pain.
The song never tells if he smashed the car, but what is clear is that taking revenge is always a bad idea and people should learn to let go and never force someone to stay.
“Devuélveme a mi chica” is an excellent song to practice your spoken Spanish level since its lyrics are catchy and funny to hear and sing, lyrics aren’t complex and the intended purpose of the song is to relax more than anything else.
If you liked “Devuélveme a mi chica” we can also recommend “Labios Compartidos ” a song by the Mexican band Maná about a man sharing his girlfriend's lips with someone else. Also, if you are interested in Hombres G music, you can check their bio here .
