Review
Shakira Suerte lyrics meaning
Suerte is a song interpreted by the Colombian Latin pop singer Shakira. The song was released in August 2001 by the discography seal Epic Records and it was the first single Shakira intended to reach English-speaking countries. The English version is called “Whenever, wherever” and you can check it at this link. However, the translation for Suerte isn’t how the song is called in English, the real translation for the song in Spanish is “luck, luck” as the lyrics and most parts of the song speak about luck and being lucky. The lyrics in the English version of the song are quite different from those in the Spanish version, as they needed to change certain words to make the lyrics rhyme with the music yet the meaning can be similar to the one for the lyrics in Spanish.
The lyrics for Suerte speak about how lucky certain events are described in the song. She starts by saying how lucky his lover is to be born in the south because of that they can circumvent distances, Shakira has learned to love strange lands thanks to traveling, she can climb the Andes by herself just to meet her boyfriend. She is lucky to have firm legs so she can run whenever she needs it, and she is lucky to have small breasts so that her boyfriend wouldn’t confuse her breast with mountains. The rest of the lyrics are simple and speak about Shakira wanting to spend her life with that special person she loves the most.
The video clip for the song was using a blue screen to simulate the background which is presented as wonders of nature, at the beginning of the video we see Shakira getting out of the sea and dancing in different beautiful yet strange places in nature, the video is quite simple but thanks to Shakira dances and her hips movements the clip was a success on TV channels like MTV.
Suerte is a wonderful song for those who want to learn Spanish. Even if the Spanish and English versions differ a little in their lyrics, the meaning is very similar so you can compare the words for both lyrics to better understand the Spanish words. Shakira’s voice is soft and easy to comprehend in both Spanish and English versions so give it a try and practice your Spanish with this wonderful track
